I hope everyone had a fabulous Fourth of July yesterday. I’m actually hoping to keep the fireworks going tonight as I set out on my very first Grouper. Grouper is a new(ish) service of sorts for meeting new people in your city over a cocktail. You fill out a quick online application and give them access to your Facebook profile. They promise not to post to your profile without your permission. Then the workerbees at Grouper match you up with someone of the opposite sex (or same sex if that is your preference, I think) based on your interests and what they can glean of your personality. Once they make a match for you, they let you know via email and ask you when you’re free to meet up. You pre-pay for your first drink and instruct both of you to bring two awesome friends. About 24 hours ahead of the meet up, Grouper emails you the exact location of where you will meet and let you know the reservation info. All you have to do now is show up. Interesting concept, right?
Notice I haven’t called it a date. I’m thinking it will be more like the Notorious B.I.G. song where Puff Daddy raps, “Tell your friends, to get with my friends/And we can be friends.” So whether we have fireworks tonight because my girl friends and I are meeting up with the most charming gentlemen in the city, or it’s just awesomely, spectacularly bad, I will report back here. Stay tuned.
